Last May River's Crossing broke ground on a $2.5 million sewer project connecting the community, located just north of the city, to Cranbrook's municipal sewage system.
Work continues today on this project, with local company MacKay Contracting doing most of the work.
"We are very committed to this project and hope to have it completed by fall 2018," says River's Crossing Project Manager Matt Oberle. "Since inception we've been plagued with a perception problem regarding sewage. We need to change this perception."
Sewage and waste water leaves homes at RCL in the usual fashion and drains into one of two large holding tanks. These holding tanks are periodically emptied by a pumper truck and taken to a treatment facility.
Once River's Crossing is connected to Cranbrook's sewer system the pump and haul system will no longer be required.
