Around here, when you miss work because of a ‘Snow Day’ it doesn’t mean the roads were impassable.  It means the lure of powder was greater than the call of duty.  If you’re lucky, your boss was also away that day, for the same reason!

Kimberley Alpine Resort is a great family hill and our nearest downhill option (only 25 minutes away).  Fernie Alpine Resort, Panorama, Fairmont and Whitefish are other great options within about 100 km’s of Cranbrook.

If you’re more of a cross country junkie, don’t mind setting your own trails, and live at River’s Crossing, you can ski right out your front door!

Sound like too much work?  The Kimberley Nordic Centre features miles of track set for skate and classic and a beautiful lodge complete with wood burning stove.  They have a very active club with programs for skiers of all ages and regular Kootenay Cup Races.

Even closer to River’s Crossing are Cranbrook’s Southstar Trails.  The terrain is gentler than Kimberley’s, and features miles of groomed trails.

When your knees get rickety and stiff and skiing is no longer an option, strap on a set of snowshoes and immerse yourself in the insulated stillness of a winter’s day. Snowshoeing along the ridge by Shadow Mountains’ hole six is a soul soothing experience.
